Structured English Immersion (SEI)
The purpose of the Structured English Immersion (SEI) program is to increase English language proficiency and the academic achievement of English Language Learner (ELL) students. Students are offered the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be become self-confident, responsible, productive and contributing members of society.
The goal of the SEI program atCountry Gardens Charter School is to support the mission of CGCS by providing support services for English Language Learners through a Structured English Immersion model within the regular classroom. Individual Language Learner Plans (ILLP) are developed for each ELL student and services are provided by teachers who hold either a Structured English Immersion Endorsement, Bi-lingual Education Endorsement or English as a Second Language Endorsement.Instructional programs for ELL students are designed to raise their level of academic achievement to state standards.
Students are assessed to determine identification of ELL or non-ELL status. CGCS uses the Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) and Arizona law requires students who have another language in the background to be assessed for English Language Proficiency. Therefore, the AZELLA is administered to all new students who have a primary or home language other than English. The results of the assessment, along with other information, determines programming for ELL students.
