Student Run Businesses
At CGCS students in grades 5-12 take part in real businesses with real money on a daily basis. Economics, Math Work Place Skills, and History standards are emphasized throughout the entire process as well as character education. The businesses include: Jungle Shop Gifts, Pirate Pizza & Subs, Hollywood’s Hot Foods, Race Carts (breakfast carts), and Eco-Earth Kids (T-shirts, etc.). Profits from these business provide partial finding for the fabulous US Cross Country Expeditions and the Expeditions to Costa Rica, Panama, and Belize.
Each business has an Executive Staff with officers and Managers. They manage all the employees (students) under the direction of their teachers, Food Service Director and Business Manager. Students perform all the tasks necessare to facilitate the busieness including the Food Service Health Inspections. They wear uniforsm and have advertising employees as well. Job titles include: Ticket Writers, Cooks, Cashiers, Servers, Managers, Graphic Arts Designers, Silk Screen Artists, Quality Control Workers, and Advertising Workers.
Learning Centers based on the businesses are intergrated into the classroom Math time. Students complete activities in Math Computation, Statistics, Geography, Economics, and History. Teamwork and leadership skills are also developed as students learn to work together to be a successful enterprise.
